Jaigris Hodson is a Canada Research Chair and Professor in Digital Misinformation, Polarization and Online Anti-Social Media at Royal Roads University. Her work examines the ways that online harassment, mis- and disinformation and polarization intersect, and are exacerbated by culture, policy, technology, economics, and personal psychology. She takes a public health approach to mitigating disinformation and polarization, and is a Resident Fellow at the Cascade Institute where she works on their Defending Democracy projects.
In addition to their academic work on harassment, health misinformation and anti-feminist online discourses, Hodson has briefed or advised representatives of multiple BC Government Ministries, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Chief Science Advisor of Canada, and the Senate of Canada. She is a member of the Science Advisory Committee for the Council of Canadian Academies, and has worked with Health Quality BC, the Conversation Canada, and the Conversation UK on efforts to mitigate online harassment.
