The Bridge Research Consortium is partnering with Ethics Bowl Canada to engage youth in meaningful discussions about the moral and ethical implications of vaccines and immunotherapies.
Ethics Bowl Canada is a national organization that hosts competitions for high school and college/university students, encouraging them to explore complex social issues through respectful and collaborative dialogue. Unlike traditional debate competitions, Ethics Bowl events emphasize shared inquiry, civil discourse, and mutual learning rather than winning arguments. Participants are encouraged to listen, question, and grow through thoughtful disagreement.
In 2025, the BRC developed two cases for the National Ethics Bowl Championship held at the Canadian Human Rights Museum in Winnipeg, which was attended by over 100 high school students across Canada:
Public Health Measures on Farms | Les mesures de santé publique dans les exploitations agricoles
Family Disagreement about Vaccines | Désaccord familial sur les vaccins
Congratulations to Loretto Abbey (Toronto, Ontario), who were the 2025 High School Champions!

In June 2025, the BRC partnered with Ethics Bowl Canada to host a mini Ethics Bowl for science graduate students part of RAMP-UP — a Québec-based research initiative developing reliable, scalable and adaptable biomanufacturing processes to produce vaccines and immunotherapies ahead of a future health emergency.
The Ethics Bowl was used as a pedagogical tool to support science trainees gain deeper engagement with the moral and ethical implications of their work, and to foster more socially informed science engagement.
As part of the full day mini Ethics Bowl training, students were introduced to ethical and philosophical concepts and engaged with experts in multiple disciplines (e.g., bioethics, public health, behavioural science, philosophy, etc.) They also competed in an Ethics Bowl with their peers discussing two vaccine-related case studies created for the National Ethics Bowl.
The graphic recording captures key themes that emerged during discussion from both cases, and highlights trainees' experiences and reflections from the day.
